Vergne: An important result

Jean-Eric Vergne is determined to "keep the momentum" after securing the first back-to-back points of his F1 career.

The Toro Rosso driver brought his STR8 home in eighth place in Monaco before following that up with a P6 in Montreal.

Having scored just seven times in his career, it was the 23-year-old's first back-to-back top ten results.

"This is an important result. It shows we are doing a good job, especially at the factory," said the Frenchman.

"It gives everybody in the team a shot of confidence and that includes me.

"So much so that on Sunday evening I was having a long chat with my engineer about the next race, in Silverstone.

"We have to keep the momentum and I'm looking forward to racing there again."

The Canadian GP result was also Vergne's best in his fledgling F1 career, although he reckons the fact that he achieved it with a solid performance is more telling.

"I was very pleased with the result in Canada. It's my best F1 finish and it is nice to put more points on the board.

"Ultimately though, the points are not that important, it's the fact that the performance was good that is important.

"Sixth place is a good result but we need to forget it now and look forward."
