Kimi eager to eradicate errors

Kimi Raikkonen and Lotus are determined to return to the front in Germany this weekend after a couple of indifferent races.

Having won the season-opening Australian GP, Raikkonen followed it up with three runners-up spots in the next three races to put himself firmly in the hunt for the World Championship, but things have gone off the boil in the past three races as he has picked up only 13 points.

A combination of bad luck and poor calls from the pit wall have contributed to the poor results, though, with the team's decision not to pit him while the Safety Car was out at Silverstone costing them dearly.

"Things were going pretty well in the race, but it was a mistake not to switch to new tyres when the Safety Car came out," the Finn, who finished fifth at the British GP. "I tried to hold on, but with tyres that were maybe twenty laps older than the others it was impossible to keep them behind at the end. It's a shame as we had good pace and looked set for a pretty easy P2, but this is racing sometimes."

Raikkonen and Lotus, though, can't afford to dwell on their mistakes as the German GP is this weekend.

"It's three races now where we haven't had the result we maybe expect, but hopefully if we can have a bit more luck and also get rid of some of the mistakes we'll be able to get back to the front."

He added: "We never promise anything beforehand. A podium would be a positive result and a step in the right direction. We missed that at Silverstone, and it would be good to get back to the top positions. The season is still long and the leaders of the Championship are ahead of us.

"Realistically, all I can do is to do my very best in each race."
