Lotus will not be in action at the start of Saturday's play in Bahrain as the team is waiting for parts to arrive.
Debuting the E22 at the Sakhir circuit earlier this week, Lotus have struggled with reliability.
It was more of the same on Friday when Pastor Maldonado managed just 26 laps as his debut was blighted with a gearbox issue.
Overnight Lotus were flying parts out from their Enstone headquarters and don't expect them to arrive until Saturday midday.
"Unfortunately, in the afternoon we had a number of gearbox-related problems," Lotus trackside operations director Alan Permane told Autosport.
"Renault have made good progress with the software and energy store, so we are headed in the right direction in that regards.
"We have identified the issue related to our gearbox and we have parts on their way from Enstone.
"Given the distance they have to travel, we may not be out first thing but we expect to be able to make further progress once we do take to the track."
