Sauber downplay Frijns criticism

Thursday 31-January-2013 10:38

Sauber boss Monisha Kaltenborn says Robin Frijns will be forgiven his recent criticism as he is both young and frustrated.

Earlier this season, Frijns told Dutch magazine Formule1 that he will "not have much to do" this year as Sauber's test driver.

The 21-year-old explained that not only would he not be testing in the pre-season but he also doubted he would get a Friday run.

Although Frijns' comment would not sit well with most bosses, his Sauber team principal has downplayed it.

"Robin is still young and we should not put too much weight on his every word," Kaltenborn told Blick.

"He has admitted to saying that but he is also irritated because he has not yet found a place in GP2 this season."

Kaltenborn, though, did hint that Frijns would get to drive during at least one Friday practice as she feels that is a good way to help young drivers grow.

She added: "The development for the young drivers is a problem.

"It would be best if each team was required to allow the test driver at least one Friday."
