Jenson Button was quick to warn against writing off Red Bull after McLaren claimed the 1-2 in qualifying for the Australian GP.

Last season, Red Bull dominated Saturday afternoons with Sebastian Vettel setting a new record for most pole positions in one season as he bagged 15.

And with his team-mate Mark Webber claiming three himself, that left just one over which went to Hamilton at the Korean GP.

However, McLaren took a small step towards evening the score in Australia on Saturday when Hamilton secured the first pole position of the season.

He did so by 0.152s ahead of Button, who stated: "Congratulations to Lewis and the whole team.

"We have done a very good job this winter, and we proved that today.

"It is only the beginning and the lights have not gone out yet, but this is great first result for us."

Button, though, warned against writing off Red Bull Racing, saying that his rivals "haven't lost it.

"They are still going to be competitive, and we can never forget that. But we will enjoy the moment go out tomorrow and hopefully have a great race."
