Rosberg hails Merc's 'momentum'

Nico Rosberg hailed his Mercedes team after claiming his second victory of the season at Silverstone on Sunday.

Starting second on the grid, the German lost ground to Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel in the opening stint. However, on lap eight Hamilton was forced to reliquish the lead when he suffered a tyre failured while on lap 46 Vettel's charge came to an when his Red Bull's gearbox let go.

The German's demise elevated Rosberg into the P1 slot with the Mercedes driver holding on to take his second win of the season and just the third of his career.

"It's very special because it's the home grand prix of the team, the factory is 10 minutes away, a lot of my team members and colleagues were in the grandstands watching today as it is very very nice that I could give them a great race, a great result," Rosberg said.

"The team really deserves it, they've been working so well the whole season and it's a great to see the momentum we have in the team at the moment."

Pressed as to how he felt as one by one those ahead of him fell out contention, he said: "With Lewis, I feel sorry for all the British fans. It would have been a great race for Lewis in front of his home crowd. It's always a massive disappointment but that's racing.

"When Sebastian stopped, I won't lie, I wasn't disappointed by that one. From then on, it was just a great race."
