Alonso: Beating Seb is vital

Fernando Alonso admits it is essential that he beats Sebastian Vettel at this weekend's Hungarian GP and narrow the deficit ahead of the summer break.

The double World Champion, who has not won a race since May's Spanish Grand Prix, arrived in Budapest with a 34-point deficit to Vettel in the Championship race.

And although there are still ten races go to, including this weekend's event, Alonso admits pulling back some points in Hungary is vital from a morale point of view.

"A good result is important," said the Spaniard.

"It's important because there is the summer break after this race and it would be good for the motivation of the team and good for our hopes if we can close the gap to Sebastian.

"If, before the summer break, this gap increases or goes very high it will be a very stressful summer break for all of us and there will be less motivation. It's an important weekend."

One factor that all the teams including Ferrari will have to take into account this weekend is the track temperature with some predicting it could reach 50'C on Sunday.

And while Alonso is not overly concerned about this, he admits Ferrari will have to stay focused as they may have to alter their strategy to suit the conditions.

"Nothing changes in terms of preparation, whatever the temperature is on Sunday we will do our same routine for the rest of the weekend.

"We just need to be a bit more open in terms of strategy in case there is the need for an extra stop. We will try to understand this tomorrow in the practice."
