Maldonado hits out at Williams

Pastor Maldonado has accused Williams of tampering with his car, something the team strenuously deny...

Although Maldonado and team-mate Valtteri Bottas were reportedly on the same set-up, they found themselves on either end of the grid for the United States GP.

While Maldonado struggled on Saturday afternoon, finishing P18, Bottas stormed into the final qualifying segment where he put his Williams up into ninth place.

The Venezuelan driver's woes come in the wake of confirmation that he will be leaving Williams at the end of this season.

Asked whether he suffered on Saturday because the team are 'prioritising' Bottas' car, he told the BBC: "I don't know and I don't care to be honest. I am focusing on next season. It's over."

However, speaking to Sky Sports F1, he said: "I think in my car somebody is playing with the pressure and the temperatures.

"You need to ask the team, the guys that are working on the car, it is quite clear."

The team have been quick to deny the accusations.

"Qualifying is a big adrenaline rush for drivers and so I'm not surprised by that, people say things after these kind of situations," said deputy team principal Claire Williams.

"We will go back and talk to the engineers and find out what happened but never in Williams' history would we ever do anything like that."
