Massa won't just make up the numbers

Thursday 19-September-2013 14:15

Felipe Massa is adamant he won't stay in F1 just for the sake of it, he wants a competitive drive or nothing.

The Brazilian is in the hunt for a 2014 race-seat after it was announced that he will be leaving at the end of his eighth season with the Scuderia.

The 11-time grand prix winner, who finished runner-up in the 2008 Championship, has already confirmed that he's in talks with Lotus in what could be a straight swap with Kimi Raikkonen.

But whatever the outcome, Massa is adamant he will only join a team capable of keeping him at the sharp end of the grid.

"We are talking with some teams and I'm hoping we find the best direction for me," Massa told Autosport. "I want to find a good car.

"I'm not interested in being in Formula 1 just to be there on the grid. I want to be there to have a good opportunity, to fight for a good result.

"I want to have the best opportunity to fight for victory and to fight for the Championship. And that's what I'm looking for and hopefully we can find it. I have a lot to give."
