Massa: Merc rivalry won't hurt team

Although Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have buried the hatchet, Felipe Massa says Mercedes would not be hurt if their relationship did break down.

Tensions boiled over at Mercedes last time out in Monaco when Nico Rosberg pipped Lewis Hamilton to pole position in dubious circumstances.

The German went on to win the grand prix, ending Hamilton's winning streak and retaking the lead in the Drivers' Championship.

The duo have subsequently spoken with Hamilton declaring that all is okay and that their friendship is back on track.

Massa, however, says even if does fall apart, Mercedes' advantage out on track and in the standings is so vast that it won't hurt the Brackley team.

"It doesn't matter the relationship," the Williams told Autosport.

"It's important to be working well to have the team improving compared to the other teams, but they don't need that - they have the best car from now until the end of the Championship.

"For me, if Nico did what he did at Monaco on purpose, it is something that is against my mentality, but it shows maybe under the pressure he can make mistakes.

"Maybe Lewis was stronger than Nico on the track and by doing that it can put Lewis in a difficult mental situation. You never know.

"It's interesting. When you're fighting just with your team-mate for a Championship, maybe some tricks can work."
