Alonso: It is only rumours

Thursday 05-September-2013 15:47

Fernando Alonso says he could commit his future to Ferrari for the next "four or five years" despite rumours to the contrary.

Despite having a deal in place until the end of 2016, Alonso was recently linked to Mark Webber soon-to-be-vacant Red Bull race-seat.

Those stories, though, fizzled out completely when Red Bull that Daniel Ricciardo would replace the Aussie next season.

However, there were more rumours to be shared with reports in Italy claiming that the Ferrari driver could in fact take a year off in 2014 if he doesn't beat Sebastian Vettel to this year's title.

Alonso insists that is just a rumour along with all the others.

"It was only rumours, a lot of rumours," said the double World Chapion.

"There were rumours about Red Bull, there were rumours in Italy about a sabbatical year. There were so many rumours.

"But I still have three-and-a-half more years [on my contract] with Ferrari which I intend to respect and hopefully increase a little bit. Try to finish my career in the best team in the world - which is Ferrari."

Pressed on the stories of him taking him a sabbatical, the 32-year-old said: "Never an option. I'm in the best moment of my career with the best experience and performing at the best time. I will not miss any opportunity now.

"I know that I'm still in very good shape for maybe four, five more years. So this for sure I will give 100 percent of my passion, that is motorsport and my career.

"After these four or five years, I will see what condition I am [in] and if I'm performing well.

"If I'm not feeling good anymore maybe I think [about what I do next], but as I said, the next four or five years I will be 100 percent committed."
