Button not giving up on 2013

Jenson Button may be refusing to give up on his season, however, has warned his fans not to expect a challenge for the British GP win.

In a season of low points, McLaren slumped to their lowest yet last time out in Canada when neither Button nor Sergio Perez made it into the top ten in a wet qualifying.

Added to that, the duo also failed to make it into the top ten during a dry race, demonstrating that even the weather cannot level the playing field for the struggling McLaren team.

The lack of points also brought to an end the team's run of 64 consecutive grands prix inside the points.

Button, though, is hoping the situation improves at the next race at Silverstone, his home grand prix.

"It isn't just me trying to be positive but I think we will be more competitive here than the last couple of races, the type of high-speed circuit that it is," he told Reuters.

"We are developing the car at the factory which is great. But we're still a long way behind...we've got to make sure we maximise everything. When you do that and you get a fifth place, you're pretty happy about it.

"You still want to win... but when you think you've got everything out of it and you couldn't have done any more, it puts a smile on your face. I think that's important."

The 33-year-old, though, admits he will probably have to wait until next season to really be in the hunt for the top prizes in Formula One.

"This has been a difficult year for us, but we still hope to be fighting at the end of the year for race wins.

"Definitely next year we will start the season looking to win the World Championship. And that includes winning the British Grand Prix.

"We did take a gamble maybe with the direction of the car, it hasn't worked for us this year. But we are still a great team and we will fight back and we will win races again."
