Raikkonen 'will race' in Singapore

Saturday 21-September-2013 16:00

Kimi Raikkonen will contest Sunday's Singapore GP despite suffering back pain that hampered his efforts in qualifying.

Minutes before qualifying began on Saturday night, it emerged that the Lotus driver had been forced to take pain-killing injections because of his back.

According to reports, it is a trapped nerve that is causing the discomfort.

Raikkonen, though, still took part qualifying but dropped out in Q2, down in 13th place.

"This morning was very bad," he told Autosport. "It was good that we drove in qualifying in the end but not the most nice."

He added: "This morning I couldn't really try, so we probably didn't get done what we wanted with the car but at least we got the car on the grid and we'll see what we can do tomorrow."

Pressed as to whether he would be okay to race on Sunday, the Finn said: "We will race and see what happens."
