The sun didn't quite come out at Silverstone on Friday, but the rain stayed away in the afternoon to give the drivers valuable time behind the wheel in Free Practice Two.
After most of the first 90-minute session was curtailed by rain in the morning, the second one proved to be a much drier affair and the drivers made sure they got as many laps under their belts as possible.
Nico Rosberg left the track with the best time as his 1:32.248, which was set on the medium compounds after 49 minutes, topped the timesheets.
The Mercedes man was 0.229 quicker than Red Bull's Mark Webber with defending World Champion Sebstian Vettel third with a time of 1:32.680. The Force India's looked strong all afternoon at their home track and Paul di Resta was rewarded with a 1:32.832 for P4 while Lewis Hamilton was P5, 0.663 off his team-mate's pace.
They were followed by the two Toro Rosso drivers with Daniel Ricciardo, who was the busiest man on the track with a 38 laps, and Daniel Vergne in P6 and P7 respectively. Adrian Sutil, Romain Grosjean and Fernando Alonso completed the top 10.
Alonso, whose best effort was a 1:33.494, was the only Ferrari driver to complete the session as his team-mate Felipe Massa went crashing into the barriers at Stowe after 24 minutes. The Brazilian appeared to lose the rear of his car and went sliding off the track, leaving the Ferrari mechanics with plenty to do overnight.
McLaren have admitted they don't expect to achieve much at their home race and Jenson Button could only manage a 1:33.740, which put him in P11, with his team-mate Sergio Perez P14.
Kimi Raikkonen, someone, who is expected to challenge for victory this weekend as he looks to keep up with Sebastian Vettel in the race for the Championship was 13th with a 1:34.130.
