Rosberg: Merc better prepared in '14

Nico Rosberg believes the Mercedes team will be able to win more races this season than in 2013 because they are better prepared than Red Bull.

The German won twice last year - at Monaco and Silverstone - and has been tipped by F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone as the one to break Sebastian Vettel's stranglehold on the world title after performing strongly at Jerez last month.

"That's a cool statement from him," Rosberg told the Berliner Kurier, when asked about Ecclestone's prediction that he will win the Drivers' Championship in 2014.

The German might be Ecclestone's pick for the title, but according to Paddy Power - where Rosberg is at 9/1 for the Championship - that is unlikely to happen.

"We are in a good mood and this season we will win a lot of races. The first test went really well and we are doing well. My new car was very reliable right from the beginning, but we do not know yet how we compare to our rivals.

"Unfortunately it is still a bit early to talk about the title, although the reliability was strong at Jerez.

"I did lots of laps and we learned so much. It is a nice feeling when you see that others cannot do many laps - although I take no great joy from it. I'm just happy if we good enough to be able to win. It is obvious that Red Bull and Renault have some problems with the new engine."

Rosberg might not be favoured at the bookies, but his partnership with Lewis Hamilton may prove to be a fruitful one and Paddy Power has the Silver Arrows as the team to beat this year.

"We have done our homework better. But the crucial thing is where we are on the grid in Melbourne for the opening race. I would love to be able to fight against Sebastian," the 28-year-old concluded.
