'Definitely not like Schumacher'

Sunday 25-May-2014 11:28

Nico Rosberg maintains his moment in Saturday's qualifying for the Monaco GP was "definitely not" like Michael Schumacher's in 2006.

That season the German was stripped of pole after being found guilty of deliberately blocking the track to hold onto the position.

And although Rosberg's moment at Mirabeau on Saturday effectively stopped anyone else from taking pole off him, the Mercedes driver says the two incidents have nothing in common.

"Definitely not," he insisted to the official F1 website. "And the data has shown that.

"As I said before, I missed the braking point, went over a bump, one front tyre locked - and the only thing I realistically could do was to find an exit."

The German, though, says he understands why some immediately jumped to a conspiracy.

"That I do understand these kind of theories; Monaco is the perfect backdrop for these kind of things," he added. "But I have to disappoint: the data is clear, as the stewards have also confirmed.

"(The data) is not different to my fastest lap or the lap before, I just missed the braking point - that's it. Of course it's far from perfect. But that's the way it is."
