Bourdais crash could delay STR3's debut

Thursday 17th April 2008

Toro Rosso's planned debut of the STR3 may have to be delayed as a result of Sebastien Bourdais's Barcelona shunt.

Having unveiled the new car at the start of play on Wednesday, Toro Rosso had hoped to put it through two full days of testing this week.

However, Bourdais's heavy shunt put an end to that plan as the damage done to the car won't be repaired in time for today's final day of testing.

This means that team will most likely have to push back the date for the car's debut as there are no more testing days scheduled prior to the Turkish GP.

'Having started this season with a modified version of the 2007 car, (STR2B) the plan was to introduce the new car as from the Turkish Grand Prix in two races time,' said a team statement on Wednesday evening.

'However, these plans might have to be changed as the new car was very badly damaged in a testing accident.'

F1's next official test takes place at the Paul Ricard circuit in the week following Turkey, which means Monaco will likely be the new venue for the STR3's race debut.
