Fisi: We're moving in the right direction

Friday 2nd May 2008

Giancarlo Fisichella is enjoying life in Formula One this season as he sets about helping his old-new team Force India work their way up the grid.

Fisi previously drove for Jordan, the outfit that eventually became Force India, which meant he's decision to join the team from Renault "is my third time under the same roof.

"It's good; it's nice to be back home as most of the faces have been there since 1997 when I drove for Jordan for the first time," Fisichella told Setanta Ireland.

The Roman is also relishing the fact that Force India have this season proven to be more competitive than they were last year racing under the Spyker brand name.

Although the team has yet to score a point this season, Fisi is knocking on the door of the second qualifying session on Saturdays and also claimed a top-ten finish at the most recent race in Spain.

"The atmosphere is really good, there is no pressure," he said. "A lot of the people are more enthusiastic to be back a little bit more competitive. For the last few years they were in the back row. Now we're in the second last row or better, so it's good.

"We've moved a step forward, we still have a lot of work to do but we're moving in the right direction."

Fisi's first raced in F1 back in 1996 when he joined Minardi, making him one of the most experienced drivers on this year's grid. And it's that experience that he reckons is helping Force India work their way up the grid.

"I think my experience is good for the team and my attitude too has been very good. So far we work very well and I can see much more enthusiasm than last year. And, as I said, we've made a big step forward already," he said.
