Brawn defends Fry after Aguri attackSaturday 10th May 2008Ross Brawn has defended Nick Fry after the Honda team CEO was accused of plotting Super Aguri's downfall.
Earlier this week Aguri Suzuki announced that his F1 team, Super Aguri, would no longer be competing in F1 after failing to secure financial backing for the team.
The former F1 driver also took the opportunity to hit out at Fry, who he believed had interfered in Super Aguri's chances of finding a backer.
"I don't understand how suddenly Nick Fry needs to be commenting on everything," Suzuki said. "Honda were our backers and he's not the CEO of Honda. I have no interest in Nick Fry whatsoever and have no idea what he was talking about."
However, Brawn has defended his fellow Honda man, saying Fry did all he can to ensure Super Aguri's survival.
"I'm sure it's a very difficult time for Aguri," said Brawn. "He's worked for two years on this project and I think he realised that the end had come.
"I think probably when he reflects on the things he said he will reflect a little differently, because what I saw was that Nick was making big efforts at times to try and keep the project alive, far beyond any reason for us personally.
"It was because of the connection of Aguri with Honda that Nick did a lot of work to try and find a viable solution for Aguri, and it looked as though the Magma option, which I know Nick worked on very hard to put together, was a strong viable solution.
"And when that didn't happen, there were no other viable solutions."
