BMW are a serious threat to McLaren and Ferrari in the race for the 2008 World Championship, according to Mercedes sports chief Norbert Haug.
The Hinwil-based outfit are second in the Constructor's Championship standings after Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld picked up two second-place finishes in the opening two races of the season.
Haug admits McLaren are wary of BMW and warns that it isn't out of their reach to finish in first place.
"For me, BMW is a serious rival. They are five points behind us after two races. That is nothing," he told Germany's SID news agency.
"They certainly have the speed, so next time they might be right out in front."
Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali has also warned that BMW could be a threat.
"We have seen that BMW also had a great weekend," Domenicali said.
"We need to respect them and for sure they will be in the middle of the field in order to take points from us and McLaren, so we need to have a lot of respect for them."
