Theissen expects a better showing in Monaco

Tuesday 13th May 2008

After coming up short in Turkey, Mario Theissen is confident BMW will be back fighting for podiums at the next race in Monaco.

BMW started the 2008 Championship with a hattrick of podium finishes, although in the last two races the team has struggled for the pace needed to break the Ferrari/McLaren grip on the top three.

They do, however, still hold onto second place in the Constructors' standings thanks to the nine-points bagged by Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld at last Sunday's race in Turkey.

"Given the starting positions I am very satisfied with the result," the BMW team boss told Autosport.

"Both drivers made up positions at the start. We expected Robert would not be able to hold Kimi (Raikkonen) behind himself, which happened.

"On the other hand Nick gained two positions at the first stop so four and five was really what we could achieve.

"For me this is a good result and an important result, and if you go home with nine points under less than perfect conditions that is fine."

However, Theissen for a better result at the next race in Monaco, which he reckons should suit the F1.08. "For Monaco I am really confident, the car should be okay there, the car should be strong," he said.

"Montreal is a different game then but we have some developments for Montreal which I hope will improve and make our car very competitive there as well.

"I think the car should suit the (Monaco) track, or vice versa, and we should be in good shape there."
