'Silverstone has been emasculated'

Silverstone has over the years lost some of the character that set it apart from other tracks, according to Williams co-owner Patrick Head.

The British GP circuit is a special place for Williams as it was here that the team clinched their maiden F1 race win back in 1979 with Clay Regazzoni.

However, Head admits that Silverstone has a lot of work to do if it hopes to remain a special place for many of the F1 teams as he reckons on-going changes have "emasculated" the Northamptonshire track.

"It's very unfair to say so but actually I have to say no," the 63-year-old told the Independent when asked if he was still a fan of Silverstone

"We used to regard it as our Indianapolis, but the circuit is emasculated from its greater days. Most of the corners apart from Copse have been made much slower, and it's just another track now.

"I like there to be differences between grand prix tracks, and at Silverstone the motor homes used to be up one end on a grass area. It was like a village. Now it's like everywhere else."
