Honda in no rush to decide 2009 line-up

Monday 13th October 2008

Honda are set to wait until the end of the season before deciding their 2009 line-up and it's no surprise that their timeframe coincides with Fernando Alonso's.

The Japanese outfit are determined to sign Alonso for next year's Championship with their resolve increasing after his clinched his second win of the season in Japan on Sunday.

The Spaniard, though, has made it clear that he won't be making an announcement on his future until after this season has ended.

"I said I would make the decision after Brazil - but that doesn't mean that I don't know what to do," said the Renault driver. "I know what to do but I will announce it after Brazil."

And not surprisingly Honda have also revealed that they won't be announcing their 2009 driver line-up until that time.

"We haven't set a time frame to decide (ourselves)," said team boss Ross Brawn. "It will be after the season finishes, but there is no desperate rush."

"Why is it that Barichello is assumed to be under threat? He has nearly 4x as many points as Button. "

"well you can have alonso, you can have his lover massa, and you can all wear red, coz your a ferrari man through and through, no matter what engines you get from next year, you will not compete with the top teams, 2 far behind, but you might get some left overs like alonso does at the moment, "

"Alonso - Button BAD Honda - KERS,Brawn GOOD Long term contract would give Alonso the chance to emulate MS at Scuderia and build Honda up to where they used to be. Something I think that would appeal to him alot. Honda will pay richly for that 2-3 secs he can add to a car. "
