Flavio Briatore is singing the praises of his Renault team following their second successive win of the season in Japan.
While the Spaniard's previous win in Singapore was fortuitous given that a Safety Car elevated him up the order, Sunday's win was down to skill, strength and the fast-paced R28.
And, according to Briatore, it was a sign that Renault are well on their way back to the form shown in 2005 and 2006 when they won the World titles.
"Alonso's victory confirms that Renault have been very competitive for at least four or five races," the Italian told the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.
"We've done a tremendous job at the factory in the last three months, and in Shanghai you'll see another new thing. If the car works well, so do the drivers.
"This time it wasn't a question of talking advantage of opportunities, like in Singapore.
"This time the Renault was the quickest car. After 18 laps we were doing better than Ferrari and Hamilton."

"After the engine freeze all the teams agreed on till 2010, where does the Renault suddenly get the pace and reliability from when last year they were so desperately uncompetitive? As far as I understand the żengine freezeż means no developing of that specific engine till after 2010? Can anyone shed some light on this?"

"Fair play, fair win, entertaining race, and a welcome return of Mr Alonso to the winners circles over the last two events. Hamilton seems to be losing more friends than he's gaining."
