Fastest lap times: Kimi returns to the top

Sunday 3rd August 2008

After taking "break" from the top of the fastest lap standings in Germany, Kimi Raikkonen found himself leading the way again in Hungary.

The Finn has dominated the fastest laps this season, claiming six consecutive top spots prior to the race at Hockenheim. In fact, besides Raikkonen only Heikki Kovalainen and Nick Heidfeld (both twice) have claimed fastest laps this season.

Ferrari were by far the fastest team on the Hungaroring track on Sunday, and Raikkonen and team-mate Felipe Massa showed the best pace.

The Finn's best time of 1:21.195 was just under two tenths of a second quicker than Massa while the McLaren of Lewis Hamilton was 0.137 slower than the Brazilian's fastest lap.

Race winner Kovalainen's best time of 1:21.753 is way down in seventh position while Glock, whose second-place finish was his maiden podium, had to settle for sixth behind his team-mate Jarno Trulli.

Nelson Piquet jr. once again outshone his team-mate Fernando Alonso and set the fourth fastest time.
