Rampf sings Kubica's praises

Friday 2nd May 2008

BMW tech director Willy Rampf has sung the praises of Robert Kubica after the Polish driver's P4 in Barcelona saw him move up to third place in the Drivers' standings.

Kubica has outpaced his more experienced team-mate Nick Heidfeld in the opening stint of this year's Championship.

Already the Polish driver has claimed two podium results and his first ever F1 pole position, which he achieved at the Bahrain GP.

However, it's not only his race results but also his technical know-how that have impressed his team's technical director.

"Obviously Robert has gained a lot of experience," Rampf told the team's website.

"I think especially this winter, when we brought the new car onto the track, it was very important that we relied on and got very exact feedback to develop the car, because when it comes to balance issues, it's not always so easy to see it in the wind tunnel or on the data.

"I think he has done a very good job. His comments are quite precise and quite repeatable, which is very important for us. He has certainly learned a lot, and made a step up compared to last year."

Kubica has scored 19 points so far this season, which puts him third in the standings, one point behind Lewis Hamilton and a further nine adrift of Championship leader Kimi Raikkonen.
