Lando Norris' followers continue to fall following BLM comments.

McLaren have defended Lando Norris, saying while it is good that he is “self-critical”, his Q1 exit in Germany was not entirely his fault.

Norris’ qualifying for the German Grand Prix ended in round one when he finished down in 16th place, 0.055s away from Q2.

His team-mate Carlos Sainz continued, making it into Q3 where he finished seventh fastest.

Norris blamed himself.

“I just didn’t put my sectors together when it counted on the sectors and that cost me,” he said.

“This is the first time I’ve let the team down when there was more potential in the car, and Carlos was in Q3 again. Need to move on and look to tomorrow.”

However, Norris wasn’t entirely to blame.

McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl has revealed that his MCL34 had a battery issue that cost him lap time in qualifying.

He told RaceFans.net: “I think it’s also important to mention because we didn’t report it yet, in all fairness to Lando, it’s nice that he’s self-critical which is great to see in his character, but we also had an issue with the battery pack in qualifying on his car.

“So we lost one tenth by that, which should have been enough to progress to Q2. And then maybe it would have been a different story.

“But I think it’s important to mention.”
