Sergio Perez has called for a rethink of the layout of the seafront chicane in Monaco, saying something needs to be done to penalise those who cut it.

Perez tussled with Kevin Magnussen in Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix with the Haas driver jumping the chicane in their battle.

Magnussen went onto finish the race ahead of Perez but was later handed a five-second time penalty for his antics.

He dropped to 14th while Perez moved up to P12.

“It’s very disappointing, you only have one move in Monaco, and you do it and the car ahead cuts the chicane, and then he’s aware that you’re there and there’s no more opportunities,” the SportPesa Racing Point driver told Autosport.

“It’s definitely something we’ve got to speak about.

“In all fairness to the car ahead he gives space but then he has nowhere to go.”

The Mexican driver reckons adding a chicane in the run-off area at the chicane, such as at Monza, would be a good deterrent.

“I think there has to be a little chicane for the people who cut the chicane to lose some time,” he added.

“It’s something we have to review over the next couple of races.”
