Who is driving in the Abu Dhabi F1 test?

Fernando Alonso is back in Formula 1, the Spaniard taking to the Yas Marina circuit for the post-season Abu Dhabi test.

While initially it was a young driver test, with only drivers who have competed in two or less grands prix allowed to participate, the rules were changed earlier this season.

That opened the door for Alfa Romeo to run Robert Kubica with Sebastien Buemi in action for Red Bull.

It also paved the way for us to get a first look at Alonso, who will be back on the 2021 grid with Renault, in action in a current car.

Renault irked many of its rivals when it confirmed that the FIA had given permission for Alonso to take part in the one-day test.

One of the drivers unhappy with the situation was Carlos Sainz who had hoped to be in action for Ferrari. Instead the Scuderia will run Robert Shwartzman and Antonio Fuoco.

Sebastian Vettel was also keen on an early run for Racing Point but they aren’t even in action, having announced earlier in the year that they – along with McLaren – 2ill sit this one out

While usually the post-season Abu Dhabi test is a two-day outing, this year it has been reduced to just one day but the teams can run two cars.
