Alonso hails Halo, questions Hulkenberg

Fernando Alonso reckons the controversial Halo saved Charles Leclerc from injury after he “flew over” the Sauber at the start of the Belgian GP.
Alonso and Leclerc were both punted into retirement on Sunday when hit by Nico Hulkenberg.
The Renault driver braked too deep, locked up and hit the back of Alonso’s McLaren.
The impact launched the Spaniard over Leclerc’s Sauber with the latter’s Halo taking a good deal of the impact.

“I flew over his car,” Alonso told BBC.
“The Halo was a very good thing to have today.
“I think for him, it helped, looking at the replay.
“We don’t need to prove it’s a good thing to have.”

Sunday’s crash was very similar to the 2012 accident at Spa that resulted in a one-race ban for Romain Grosjean – and a DNF for Alonso.
The resemblance wasn’t lost on the McLaren driver.
“Yet again a very big-time missed braking point,” Alonso said.
“Last time Romain had a race ban. This time we’ll see.
“It’s hard to understand how you can miss a braking point that much. You arrive at a speed where it’s impossible to negotiate the corner.”
