Don’t expect to see either Pierre Gasly or Daniil Kvyat lining up for the next Virtual GP with AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost revealing neither wants to do it.

With the Formula 1 season yet to get underway, the sport’s bosses have decided to host Virtual GPs instead.

The first took place on what would have been the Sunday night of the Bahrain Grand Prix but only two of the current crop of F1 drivers, Lando Norris and Nicholas Latifi, made the start grid.

The rest of the field opted against it, including Gasly and Kvyat.

“I phoned our drivers, but they didn’t want to do it,” Tost told Motorsport-Total.com.

“Pierre is already driving simulators, but he did not the facility he would have needed to participate.

“And Daniil just doesn’t like it.”

Tost, though, concedes there are opportunities for the Formula 1 teams in e-racing.

AlphaTauri, under the Toro Rosso name, have competed in the F1 ESports series for the past few years, even winning a few races.

“That is not my world, I have to honestly say,” Tost added.

“I imagine something different under motorsport.

“Today’s young people are interested in it. We have our own e-team.

“Two years ago we won some races in the championship and were also at the forefront in the championship.

“This is a future market that is also interesting for the sponsors. And you can get young fans excited about motorsport.”
