Alpine’s car livery is set to be tinged with pink this year after the team signed a long-term partnership agreement with BWT.

A familiar F1 sponsor, BWT were best known in connection with the ‘pink Mercedes’ as the 2020 Racing Point, which displayed their branding prominently, became known.

Last year, they carried forward that association to Aston Martin but were only a secondary sponsor rather than featuring in the team title, that status having gone to Cognizant, so the pink became a mere detail on the British racing green livery.

But now the Austrian water treatment supplier have moved on to Alpine as their title partner, so the team will be known as BWT Alpine F1 with immediate effect – confirming a rumour that has been swirling for a few weeks.

And the constructor, who have retained Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon as their driver line-up, confirmed in their official announcement that the “renowned pink colour of BWT will be incorporated into Alpine’s famous blue livery”.

“Alpine has committed to use BWT’s iconic pink branding to spread the message of sustainability and social responsibility further around the world, utilising the combined global platforms of Formula 1 and the automotive industry” said the team’s statement.

“The pink colour symbolises BWT’s mission to ‘Change the World – sip by sip’ and to make it a little bit better every day by implementing the Bottle Free Zone concept.”

In announcing the deal, Alpine also emphasised their aim to “challenge for the championship within 100 races into this new regulations era”, which essentially means by 2025 or, at the absolute latest, 2026.

Cedric Journel, Alpine’s sales and marketing vice-president, said: “We are excited to announce BWT will be the title partner for Alpine F1 Team for the next years.

“Both Alpine’s and BWT’s sustainability agendas are fully aligned on eliminating single-use plastics and we are pleased to join forces to convince many people around the globe, our employees, partners, customers and fans to reduce plastic waste.

“In parallel, we will use the huge global platform F1 provides to support BWT in their fight against the unfair distribution of clean, safe and healthy drinking water.”

The first look at how BWT will be blended into the Alpine livery will be unveiled when the team launch their all-new 2022 car on Monday February 21, two days before what is being described as a ‘pre-season track session’ begins at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
