Aston Martin’s top boss, Lawrence Stroll, has not ruled out a future move for Lewis Hamilton in the years to come, saying the team would be “crazy” not to consider him.

The seven-time World Champion has recently committed his future to Mercedes for a further two seasons in a new contract extension which will run until the end of the 2023 campaign.

By the time that contract ends, Hamilton will be just about ready to turn 39 and, although he is unsure about wanting to still be a Formula 1 driver as he approaches his 40s, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff already suspects that Hamilton’s latest deal will not be his last in the sport.

And so the potential remains for a final, late-career switch from Hamilton and a very ambitious Aston Martin team have said they would be foolish not to consider Hamilton if he was on the market.

Asked if he would consider Hamilton if he was open to offers, Stroll replied via GPFans: “Absolutely. You’d have to be crazy not to want to have Lewis drive for you.”

Aston Martin are on a real recruitment drive as they look to work towards a five-year plan to win the World Championship title; Stroll believes his team are not too far away from competing with the very best teams off the track when it comes to resources and expertise available to them in order to progress forward.

“As you know, we are hiring brilliant new senior and technical engineering talent all the time, and the result will be a technical and engineering strength in the company, and the depth, equal to if not better than any other Formula 1 team,” Stroll stated.

“We currently have approximately 500 employees. When I took over at Force India we had approximately 400. We’ve grown by about 100, and it’s not just quantity it’s quality.

“In Formula 1 it takes time to get people, as you are well aware, contracts, gardening leave etcetera, but in the near term, we plan to push that number to approximately 800 people.

“It shows the belief in our goals, in our targets, in our journey, the level of people that are joining us.

“It takes years to put the right people, the right tools, the right processes in place but we’re building and investing in our team with the ambition of moving up the grid year by year.

“Our ultimate ambition is to win world championships.

“We’re going to do whatever it takes, within the rules obviously.”
