Daniel Ricciardo still hurt by the answer to the question that sealed Renault exit.

Daniel Ricciardo’s first impressions of McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl are very positive, saying he brings “German efficiency”.

After two seasons with Renault where he picked up a pair of podium finishes, Ricciardo made the move to McLaren for 2021 on a multi-year deal as he looks to play a key role in their continued recovery up the order.

With Mercedes power and a unique diffuser design, testing indicated that McLaren are the team best placed to lead the midfield battle, having finished P3 in the Constructors’ Championship last season, but perhaps with a smaller deficit to Mercedes and Red Bull ahead this time around.

And Ricciardo believes Seidl is playing a key role in McLaren’s upturn in form, bringing his “German efficiency” to the Woking outfit.

“I really like Andreas,” Ricciardo is quoted by GPFans.

“He is a good operator and I think he has contributed a lot to the team and contributed to the structure.

“Even just some of the discipline in the team, I feel like he is definitely a good guy to be around McLaren right now and I am looking forward to learning more about him and working more with Andreas.

“So far, so good. German efficiency.”

Ricciardo said previously that he does not yet feel fully comfortable with his new challenger, the MCL35M.

After only three days of testing that is completely understandable, but the Aussie does not want to give himself the time to become one with the MCL35M.

“From a race weekend, dialling in the strategic stuff with the team and going through, let’s say, a race simulation, I’m pretty comfortable,” he explained.

“So it’s just me getting comfortable within myself and the car. It naturally takes a bit of time but I don’t really want to give myself the time.”

With the three days of pre-season testing in Bahrain now complete, the teams will remain in the nation for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix which will take place from March 26-28.

Despite having a very difficult time of things in testing, Mercedes remain favourites for the opening round, though Red Bull, McLaren and indeed AlphaTauri showed real promise.
