Despite being the more experienced of the two, Daniel Ricciardo thinks there is much he can learn from his new team-mate Lando Norris.
The pair will be driving together for the first time in 2021 following the Aussie’s decision to leave Renault and join McLaren, replacing Carlos Sainz who left for Ferrari.
While it will be Ricciardo’s first time working with the team, the Briton conversely is already settled in and familiarised, entering his third season there. Ricciardo thus thinks that despite being a decade older, he can learn a lot from his team-mate.
“It’s funny. I’m certainly the more experienced in terms of F1, this being my 11th season, but in terms of McLaren, Lando is the more experienced,” Ricciardo said, quoted by GPFans.
“For sure, there are some things I can learn from him, particularly within the team itself, the integration into the McLaren family.
“Every time you have a new team-mate, it’s a real opportunity to learn something new, like work ethic or a driving technique, or both.”

Ricciardo is one of the most experienced and accomplished drivers on the grid having collected seven wins and 31 podium finishes in 188 races.
Meanwhile, Norris, 21, has only been on the grid for two seasons and finished in the top three just once.
Given this, you may expect Ricciardo to take on something of a mentor role, but he says he is happy to learn from a driver regardless of their experience.
“I’m always pretty open-minded,” he added.
“I know every driver has confidence in themselves and their ability, and I’m very confident as an individual but also open-minded.
“If there’s something I can take from Lando and use it to better myself then obviously I’m looking to learn as much as I can.”
Given the light-hearted nature of the two and the fact they have often been seeing joking around, many are expecting plenty of laughs to come from the pairing.
However, thus far, the relationship has taken on a more serious nature, with Norris even stating he does not expect Ricciardo to make things harder for him or be much better than Sainz.
