Kvyat’s ‘very slim’ chance of staying at AlphaTauri

Daniil Kvyat reiterates chances of keeping AlphaTauri seat are "very slim".
Daniil Kvyat reiterated that his chances of keeping his seat at AlphaTauri for the 2021 season are “very slim” at best.
Pierre Gasly is already signed and sealed for 2021, but who partners him in the second AlphaTauri still isn’t clear.
Kvyat currently holds that position, but he is seen very much as the outsider to keep it with F2 star and Honda junior Yuki Tsunoda seemingly in prime position for the Russian’s seat, while Alex Albon also appears to be an option.
And Kvyat fully accepts, as he has done for a while, that his chances of remaining an AlphaTauri driver for 2021 are “very slim”.
“I know, like I said already, many times, that the chances of me being here next year are very slim,” he told reporters ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
“It all depends on very particular scenarios so I’m kind of already with my mind just focusing on these three races here and not really thinking about the future.
“I’m just going to give my best to this team in the next few races and then we will see.
“They [AlphaTauri] deserve for me thinking about these three races and staying focused this year because in the end there’s a lot of ups and downs but lately it’s being going better and better and I’m just hoping to continue this trend, and close this year in the best way possible.”

Kvyat made it clear that whether he knows his future or not, it doesn’t affect his commitment in any way to AlphaTauri.
“Whether I know I’m staying or not I always give my best in every race, already [have] for the last few races, and that doesn’t change,” he explained.
“I just do my best, work with my engineers, do my best driving that I can and then that’s the only thing I can do in these circumstances.”
After a year out of the sport Kvyat was recalled to the Red Bull programme and placed at Toro Rosso for the 2019 campaign, staying with them this season as they became AlphaTauri.
But Kvyat’s performances have been largely below par in 2020. P4 at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix lifted him on to 26 points, but Gasly has 37 more on the board than his team-mate.
