Kvyat penalised for last lap incident with Hulkenberg
Daniil Kvyat says he has no regrets after dropping out of the points due to a time-penalty picked up for his last-lap collision with Nico Hulkenberg.
The Toro Rosso man sent Hulkenberg into the wall when he tried to pass him at the final corner and was thus given a ten-second penalty after the race, dropping him out of the points.
“It was last lap, last corner, obviously he was struggling with his tyres then I tried to put my nose there and he shut the door,” Kvyat said shortly before the penalty was given.
“I don’t know how the stewards will see it, but it felt to me, last lap, last corner, you need to fight.”
Hulkenberg meanwhile was promoted back up to P10 as a result of Kvyat’s penalty, but still lost a point due to the crash. However, after the race, he said he has no hard feelings towards the Russian.
“I left significant space on the inside,” he said.
“[Daniil’s] trying what you have to as a racing driver, so just one of these things in racing.”
The result extends Renault’s lead over Toro Rosso in the standings, with the French team now nine points ahead of both them and Racing Point.
