F1 2022 results: Hungarian GP – First Practice session
Carlos Sainz started the weekend on the front foot as he topped the timesheets of FP1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Ferrari driver pipped Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to the lead with the Dutchman finishing 0.130 seconds behind the Spaniard.
Sainz’s team-mate Charles Leclerc completed the top three as he ended Fp1 0.289s seconds behind the other Ferrari driver.
Lando Norris impressed as he finished P4 ahead of fellow Brit George Russell in P5. Sergio Perez could only manage P6 with Lewis Hamilton behind him in seventh.
The two Alpines of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso completed the top 10 with McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo beating them to P8.
Kevin Magnussen, who had seven upgrades fitted to his car this weekend, was unable to convert that into pace and finished P17, just one place ahead of team-mate Mick Schumacher who had no upgrades.
The teams will have gathered plenty of data but it may not prove that beneficial over the weekend with a wet Saturday expected to come before a dry but cooler Sunday.
