F1 2023 results: FP1 timings from Miami Grand Prix practice

Carlos Sainz during FP1. Miami, May 2023.
Mercedes began the Miami Grand Prix in an impressive fashion as they finished one-two on the FP1 timesheets.
George Russell finished 0.212 seconds ahead of his team-mate Lewis Hamilton while Charles Leclerc rounded out the top three.
Russell’s weekend did not get off to a good start when a steering issue saw him return to the pits for a lengthy fix. The Mercedes man eventually returned with 18 minutes left to go but thankfully he has two further sessions to get some laps in.
He was not alone in having issues as Nyck De Vries continued his underwhelming start to the season by spinning on the track at Turn 11. The Dutchman was investigated by the stewards for dangerous driving as he drove the wrong way down the circuit in order to give him enough space to turn around but the investigation passed without a penalty.
With the time ticking just over the half hour mark, the first red flag of the weekend was shown after Nico Hülkenberg lost control at Turn 3 and left some parts of his VF-23 over the Miami circuit.
