F1 2023 results: FP2 timings from Miami Grand Prix practice

Max Verstappen topped the timesheets for the first time this weekend as he set a time of 1:27.930 around the Miami International Autodrome.

Having been pipped at the last moment by the two Mercedes in FP1, the Dutchman quickly set a marker with an early fast lap that matched George Russell’s best in the earlier session.

But it was not a session without problems for Verstappen with the Red Bull man taking to the radio to inform his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase that his head rest was causing him issues as it had done in Baku.

That did not prevent him from setting the fastest time of the day, moving clear of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz by 0.385 seconds.

Verstappen was ahead of team-mate Sergio Perez by 0.489 seconds and the Mexican was also shown a black and white flag for crossing the pit lane line on entry.

Mercedes followed up their one-two in FP1 with a P7 for Lewis Hamilton while Russell finished 15th, 1.286 seconds behind Verstappen.

Ferrari also suggested they may have some pace this weekend as Charles Leclerc set fastest sector times without being able to link up a full lap but did manage P3. His session came to an early end when he lost control of the car and crashed at Turn 7.
