F1 results: FP1 timings from Austrian Grand Prix practice

The first and only practice session kicked off the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix with Max Verstappen topping the times.
Ahead of a packed schedule including qualifying for Sunday’s race later in the day, it was the Red Bull of Verstappem who began the weekend the strongest.
He was followed by the two Ferraris who both set their times on the soft tyre while Verstappen was on the medium.
It was a day of great intrigue with plenty of upgrades brought to the cars, notably on the McLaren of Lando Norris although his team-mate Oscar Piastri will have to wait until next weekend’s British Grand Prix.
Norris though spent plenty of time out of the car as his engineers appeared to be working to fix a problem. He would finish the session last while Piastri came 12th.
With limited practice running, you would have expected the teams would have been keen to maximise their on-track time but one constructor who did not take up that option was Williams with Logan Sargeant not emerging until 18 minutes had already passed.
Williams though maintained it was all part of their plan rather than any issue preventing the American from going out.
