Max Verstappen claimed pole for the Austrian Grand Prix in a thrilling Friday qualifying, where Charles Leclerc almost snatched that P1 spot.

With the sprint format in use at the Red Bull Ring, Friday housed traditional qualifying to set the grid for Sunday’s Grand Prix, and leading them away will be Verstappen who got the better of Leclerc by a measly 0.048 seconds.

It was far from a positive afternoon for Verstappen’s Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez though, who saw a trio of times deleted in Q2 for track limits, meaning he missed Q3 for the fourth race in a row.

Perez then should have been on the second row at least with the pace of that Red Bull RB19, but instead, that will be formed by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris who shone in the upgraded McLaren.
