Fernando Alonso expects talks over unfair qualifying red flag rule.

Fernando Alonso says he has grown to like a lot of things about England over the years, but not that pesky weather…

He may be Spanish, but Alonso has spent a huge amount of time in England over the years given his two spells with McLaren, a British team, and Renault/Alpine, who also have a factory in the country.

On the whole, he enjoys the time he spends there, but there are some things he’s not a fan of.

“I have a love-hate relationship with England,” he said.

“I do like the way English people take life in general. Discipline, loyalty, work ethic…

“But at the same time, I’m from Spain. I like the good weather, the sun, and every time that I go to England I check the forecast there is some rain or it’s windy or foggy or something.

“It becomes a little more difficult to spend time there so hopefully we have a good weekend this time and everyone can enjoy a sunny Silverstone.”

Regardless of what the weather is like though, the Alpine driver says that he always enjoys the British Grand Prix, which he sees as a home race for Formula 1 as a whole, not just the British drivers.

He says that makes it all the more special.

“Formula 1 and England is like the same thing,” said the Spaniard.

“We all grew up in factories based in the UK with an English environment, mechanics, engineers…

“So when we get to Silverstone we know that it’s a home grand prix for Formula 1 in general and it has been like this for many years.

“It’s one of those races where you want to do well because there are a lot of eyes on Silverstone in the Formula 1 community and a lot of the teams, they have families there, they have a lot of support from everybody.

“Some of the workers in the factory, if they come to one race in the year it’s Silverstone because it’s close to home so it’s an important weekend for everyone.”
