An eager Fernando Alonso has joked Renault are already ignoring his messages as he inches ever closer to making his Formula 1 return.
Alonso will be back on the Formula 1 grid with Renault (soon to be renamed Alpine) in 2021 and the two-time World Champion is being relentless in not only making sure he is ready for action but is also pushing the team to make sure that they are as competitive as possible for when the new regulations are introduced in 2022.
So much so, the Spaniard has joked that Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul has been reading his messages and not replying to them.
“I’m sure he’s starting to get tired of me, because he doesn’t answer my messages any more!”

When the big news about Fernando Alonso’s broke, so too did the news that Esteban Ocon was being retained. Alonso wasted little time in getting in contact with his new team-mate as he continues to plan for the future.
He added: “People seem to be very surprised every time they hear about me in these aspects, but I have always been like that.
“At McLaren everyone was surprised at how excited I was about Honda, and they thought I was happier than at Ferrari, although they also noticed my enthusiasm at Ferrari.
“I’ve always been like that, but many people don’t realise it until they work with me. I have always wanted to return to Formula 1.”
Alonso’s former boss at McLaren, Zak Brown, recently said in a interview that he enjoyed working with Alonso at the team and thinks he is going to be “tough to beat” back at Renault.
