The 2023 Ferrari car is reported to be a substantial upgrade on its predecessor as the Italian outfit prepares for its launch on Valentine’s Day.
Having built the fastest car for the start of the 2022 season, Ferrari had a challenge to improve on the F1-75 but a new report has suggested that the early signs are encouraging.
The runners up in last year’s Constructors’ Championship have set a Valentine’s Day date to show the new car, codenamed project 675, to the world but details have begun to emerge of what fans can expect.
According to Formu1a.uno, the results in the simulator are showing that the 675 is “at least one second faster” then its predecessor.
“From our information, the numbers from the Ferrari simulator are extremely positive, with highly-qualified sources revealing that the 2023 car is over one second faster than last year’s machine,” reported Piergiuseppe Donadoni.
“This is an intriguing estimation from the Maranello camp, considering the 2023 regulations introduce significant variations in terms of overall aerodynamic load.”
Donadoni also reports that new team principal Fred Vasseur, who left Sauber to replace Mattia Binotto at the start of 2023, is not expected to make any big changes, a move that was “largely welcomed at the factory.”
The team is also expected to change its launch venue from Imola to Maranello as they did not have time to organise the logistics of the presentation.
The 675 is also reportedly delayed but not enough to worry the team.

Everyone has good numbers until they don’t
While the noise coming out of Ferrari is positive, the reality is we will not know just how quick their 2023 car is until the first race in Bahrain, for the simulator does not always produce the most accurate results.
Mercedes and the W13 are the prime example of this, as the porpoising issue that wrecked almost the entirety of their season did not show up until they got the car out on track.
And while the pre-season testing event in Bahrain is a good chance for teams to see where the problems are, such as McLaren’s brake issue last year, it is not until the first race that teams will show their true performance.
The term ‘sandbagging’ has often been applied to teams who do not show their optimal performance and they have every right not to, for one of the strongest weapons a team has at the start of the season is the element of surprise.
Besides, the F1-75’s problem was not speed but rather its reliability and the decision-making of the strategy team, interspersed with the odd driver error – which cannot be accounted for in a simulator.
