At the British Grand Prix, Ferrari will have a celebration to mark the 70th anniversary of their first win in Formula 1.

The Italian team have won a total of 238 wins in Formula 1 since the sport began in 1950, more than any other constructor.

The first of them came courtesy of Jose Froilan Gonzalez at the British Grand Prix taking place on 14 July 1951, 70 years prior to this year’s race at the British circuit.

To celebrate that fact, the car he did it in, the 375 F1, has been restored and sent from Maranello to Silverstone and will be driven by Charles Leclerc ahead of the race.

“This coming Sunday, before the start of the British Grand Prix, an historic race that has been on the calendar in every year of the world championship, Scuderia Ferrari will celebrate in a special way, the 70th anniversary of the first of its 238 Formula 1 wins,” a statement on the Ferrari website reads.

“It happened on 14 July 1951 courtesy of the Argentinian driver Jose Froilan Gonzalez at the wheel of a 375 F1.

“One of these legendary cars has made the journey to England from the Officina Classiche in Maranello, where it has been completely restored over the past few months.

“Once again therefore, the sound of the 375 F1 12 cylinder engine will ring out around Silverstone, courtesy of Charles Leclerc, winner of two Formula 1 races with the Scuderia, just like ‘El Cabezon,’ as Gonzalez was known in racing circles.”

Furthermore, the cars of both Leclerc and team-mate Carlos Sainz will also have a special logo featured on their halos for the race to pay tribute to the Gonzalez, while there will also be a message on the vehicles thanking the Italian national football team after their triumph at Euro 2020.
