Pat Symonds has dubbed George Russell a future World Champion.

Former Williams tech boss Pat Symonds has claimed that George Russell has the talent to one day win a World Championship in Formula 1.

The British rookie has impressed at Williams this season, consistently outperforming his team-mate, Kubica, and even making it to Q2 in Hungary.

His performances have drawn praise from many, including Claire Williams and Toto Wolff, and Pat Symonds has now followed suit, giving the highest possible compliment.

“I’ll give you a slightly off-the-wall answer. Watching George Russell in Formula 2, I’ve been really impressed with him,” Symonds said when asked by a fan to pick a future World Champion.

“I’ve seen him race really well in so many different circumstances, leading in the front, controlling the race, coming through traffic, wet weather, dry weather, when things have gone wrong he’s kept at it. I’ve got a feeling he might be a guy to watch.”

Russell’s performances have led to links with Mercedes, but the Brit has downplayed these rumours.
