Guenther Steiner believes Haas will need to “get lucky” to reach the podium because on a “normal” Sunday, that’s only available to the top three teams.
Although Haas have impressed since entering Formula 1 in 2016, the American has yet to taste the podium campaign.
Their best result to date was a fourth-place at last year’s Austrian Grand Prix.
But with Haas once again looking to knock on the door of ‘best of the rest’ in the championship after a solid pre-season, Steiner is dreaming of a first podium.
He, however, concedes Haas need the top three teams to slip up for that to happen.
“That is a dream,” said the team boss.
“If we could make it that would be nice.
“I would say last year in Baku without the accident we could have got close to it.
“So hopefully it is our season as last year luck was not a lot on our side.
“Maybe it turns and we get lucky.
“But if everything goes normal nobody can reach the podium except for the top three teams.
“Sometimes there are things happening in a race where you can make it, and if you are there and about after the three big teams, you can pick it up.”
The Austrian added that Haas have to be ready to seize the moment should it arise by ensuring that they are the fourth best team and next in line for the podium.
“You need to be there all the time,” he said.
“You need to be consistently in that fourth spot as a team to get to the podium.”
