Honda take a dig at Alonso after ‘GP2 wins’

Honda have wasted little time in firing some shots at Fernando Alonso following Max Verstappen’s epic win at the German Grand Prix.

Just in case you have been living under a rock, Alonso was not a big fan of Japanese manufacturer and, at the 2015 Japanese Grand Prix during McLaren’s miserable spell with Honda, called the power unit a “GP2 engine”.

It was an insult that stuck with Honda for a very long time.

Fast forward to the present day; Verstappen five-stopped his way to his second victory of the season after one of the craziest Formula 1 races ever seen and Honda were quick to remind a certain Spaniard of that stat straight after checkered flag waved.

That damn auto-correct…

It ended up being a case of double delight for Honda, as Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat joined Max Verstappen on the podium with a phenomenal P3 finish.

“It was amazing to be back on the podium. Incredible with Toro Rosso to bring a podium back to the team is amazing,” Kvyat said in the post-race interview.

“I’m really happy. It was a horror movie with a black comedy. At some point i thought the race was done, but it was incredible, a rollercoaster, just like my career.”
