Daniil Kvyat could make a surprise return to Toro Rosso next season with reports claiming Red Bull are considering bringing him back into the fold.
Kvyat was sacked by Red Bull during last year’s championship after a tumultuous few seasons with the team.
Kvyat was instead sent back down to Toro Rosso, however, that didn’t last long.
Although the junior team retained his services for the 2017 season, Kvyat was sidelined for two races as they trailed Pierre Gasly, brought back for one and then dropped completely.
He found refuge at Ferrari as a development driver.
Red Bull, though, are now considering re-hiring him.
According to Motorsport.com, Red Bull held talks with Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene about the prospect of the 24-year-old rejoining Toro Rosso next year.
Toro Rosso are in the hunt for two drivers for next season as Gasly is stepping up to Red Bull while Brendon Hartley has failed to impress.
The team has Dan Ticktum on the books but there is some debate over whether Formula 3 driver is ready to step up.
Lando Norris has also been linked to Toro Rosso should McLaren opt for someone else as Carlos Sainz’s 2019 team-mate.
